Understanding the REX System
The REX system is a self-certification mechanism introduced by the European Union to simplify the process of certifying the origin of goods. It allows exporters to declare the preferential origin of their products directly on commercial documents, eliminating the need for traditional certificates like Form A or EUR.1.
This system is pivotal in facilitating trade under various preferential agreements, including those with Canada (CETA), Japan, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and others.
This registration allows to E.C.S. Customers, placed in Canada, Japan, Chile and U.K. to save taxes for the goods which have preferential origin.
The Registration Process
To become a registered exporter, E.C.S. underwent a meticulous process:
- Application submission: provided necessary company details and documentation to the competent customs authority.
- Verification: underwent assessments to ensure compliance with origin rules and the ability to maintain proper records.
- REX Number Assignment: received a unique REX number, structured as follows:
- Country Code: ‘IT’ for Italy.
- REX Identifier: denotes registration under the REX system.
- EORI Number: the company’s Economic Operator Registration and Identification number.
This REX number is now included in all relevant commercial documents, facilitating seamless trade operations.
